Sphenopalatine Ganglion Block (SPGB) Therapy may provide relief from chronic sinus headaches, as well as cluster headaches. Specifically, SPGB Therapy consists of temporarily anesthetizing (numbing) the sphenopalatine ganglia (SPG)—which is a fancy medical term for a collection of nerve cells located behind the nasal passage. These cells regulate the autonomic nervous system supply to the face and sinuses. How SPGB Therapy works With SPGB therapy, we gently deliver Procaine™ into the posterior nasopharynx with a very small “straw” called a nasal cannula. This allows the Procaine™ to spread into the SPG, numbing them for about 30-45 minutes. The numbing of the ganglion cells causes a “resetting” of the autonomic (sympathetic and parasympathetic) nervous enervation of the face and sinuses. This “resetting” often results in reduced nasal-sinus congestion and mucous production. In many cases, one SPGB treatment will resolve sinus-related or cluster headaches. For other patients, additional visits may be required to maximize pain relief. Contact For further details, contact us today at BOULDER PROLOTHERAPY. |
