Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia (FMA) is a relatively common ailment, afflicting up to 4-5% of the general population. Many FMA patients are female. FMA can be associated with Restless Leg Syndrome and with multiple joint sprain injuries and ligament laxity.

Fibromyalgia is considered “idiopathic”—meaning that, currently, there is no known direct cause. However, the pain of FMA is very real, fitting into the more modern classification of chronic multifocal sprain injury, “chronic pain”, and neurotransmitter imbalance.

Characterized as "general musculoskeletal pain of unknown origin", diagnosis of FMA is conventionally based on the presence of 18 tender points. These are specific sites where muscles are tender to palpation (physical touch).

There are some other general conditions that can confound the classical picture of FMA diagnostically and therapeutically.  One is generalized joint instability and another is osteoarthritis—either of which may coexist with FMA and somewhat increase the complexity of the situation—both of which can be treated at BOULDER PROLOTHERAPY.

Treatment

Patients with FMA-related sprain injuries often experience reduced FMA pain symptoms after the sprain injuries are treated by Osteopathic Manual Therapy (OMT)Neural Therapy (Trigger Point Injection), Prolotherapy, Neurotransmitter Balancing, and Interim Pain Management. BOULDER PROLOTHERAPY provides abundant experience in treating and permanently relieving acute and chronic joint sprain associated with Fibromyalgia, giving you the ability to move more freely and enjoy your favorite activities.

Although we may need to provide interim pain medication—ultimately, we want to help you reduce or totally eliminate your need for chronic pain medication.
